Reduction of risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, and improvement of hyperlipidemia
This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, and is effective in managing cardiovascular diseases such as vascular interventions and angina. Additionally, it regulates cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with hyperlipidemia and increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels. It can be safely used in adult and pediatric patients with a family history or multiple risk factors. This medication plays an important role in improving cardiovascular health in conjunction with dietary therapy.
For hyperlipidemia: The recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily as atorvastatin, but in patients requiring greater LDL-cholesterol reduction, therapy may begin at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. This medication is administered at doses ranging from 10 to 80 mg once daily. The initial and maintenance doses should be individualized based on treatment goals and responses, and lipid levels should be analyzed within 2 to 4 weeks to adjust the dosages as necessary.
For pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10 to 17): The recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum recommended dose of 20 mg once daily. The dose should be appropriately adjusted based on the treatment goals at intervals of 4 weeks or more.
