This medication is primarily used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It is particularly helpful in reducing the risk of conditions such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and angina in adults with cardiovascular risk factors and patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it lowers the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, need for vascular intervention, hospitalization due to congestive heart failure, and angina in patients already diagnosed with cardiovascular diseases. In patients with hyperlipidemia, it is used to reduce total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels to improve blood lipid status. Furthermore, it acts as an adjunct to reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels in adolescents with familial hypercholesterolemia that is not controlled by diet alone. Thus, this medication is effective for the reduction of cardiovascular disease risk and improvement of dyslipidemia, contributing to the enhancement of patient health.

Precautions

This medication can cause muscle-related issues, so if symptoms such as muscle pain or weakness occur, treatment should be discontinued immediately and a physician consulted. This medication should not be used in patients with certain liver diseases or severely impaired liver function and regular liver function tests should be performed before and during treatment. Women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding should not take this medication, and women of childbearing potential should use appropriate contraceptive methods during treatment. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in the original container for safety. If allergic reactions such as skin rashes, hives, itching, or difficulty breathing occur during treatment, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a physician. This medication may raise blood glucose levels, so patients at risk of diabetes should manage their blood sugar carefully, and if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, they should inform healthcare providers immediately. Elderly patients or those with kidney disease have a higher risk of muscle-related complications and require careful monitoring during treatment.
