This medication is used for patients with various risk factors related to cardiovascular diseases. For example, it reduces the risk of myocardial infarction or stroke and lowers the risks associated with angioplasty and angina. It is also beneficial for patients with type 2 diabetes who have risk factors for coronary heart disease and reduces the risk of hospitalization due to congestive heart failure. At the same time, in patients with hyperlipidemia, it helps to decrease total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol. It is particularly effective as an adjunctive treatment when dietary control is insufficient. Overall, it is used to improve the risk of cardiovascular diseases and hyperlipidemia.

Precautions

This medication may cause abnormal muscle symptoms; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs or if creatine kinase levels rise significantly. In particular, caution is required if serious myopathy or rhabdomyolysis is suspected, as it may lead to kidney function deterioration. This medication should not be used by patients with poor liver function or active liver disease, individuals with muscle disorders, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, children under 10 years old, or those taking certain medications. Alcoholics or individuals with a history of liver disease, those with reduced kidney function, patients with hypothyroidism, and the elderly should be monitored more carefully when taking this medication. Although this medication generally has few side effects, it can exhibit various symptoms such as dyspepsia, headache, myalgia, liver function abnormalities, and allergic reactions; if any unusual symptoms occur, they should be reported. In particular, it is essential to consult a doctor immediately if muscle pain is severe or persists. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is crucial to inform the doctor or pharmacist if any other medications are being taken. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, and fertile women should ensure appropriate contraception while on this medication. Caution is necessary for children and the elderly, as safety and efficacy have not been adequately established in these populations.
