This medication is used in cases of vitamin B1 deficiency or increased needs for vitamin B1. It is effective in preventing and treating vitamin B1 deficiency and helps supplement during conditions such as debilitating diseases, hyperthyroidism, pregnancy and breastfeeding periods, and during strenuous physical labor when supplementation may be needed. Additionally, it is used for neurological and cardiac-related conditions such as Wernicke's encephalopathy and beriberi heart disorders. It is also useful in alleviating symptoms involving neuropathic pain, myalgia, arthralgia, peripheral neuropathy and paralysis, myocardial metabolic disorders, gastrointestinal motility dysfunction, and postoperative bowel paralysis. However, it is not recommended to use this medication without purpose for more than one month if it proves ineffective. This medication effectively treats various symptoms associated with vitamin B1 deficiency.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Fursultiamine is typically administered by subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intravenous injection in doses of 5 to 100 mg per day for adults. Adjust as necessary based on symptoms.

Precautions

This medication is provided in an ampoule form, which poses a risk of glass fragmentation. Therefore, care must be taken when breaking the ampoule, especially when administering to children and the elderly. Patients who have had allergies or hypersensitivity reactions to the ingredients in this medication should not use it. Caution is advised when administering this medication to patients with a history of drug hypersensitivity reactions. Rarely, serious adverse reactions such as shock may occur, necessitating careful monitoring of the patient’s condition. If sudden drops in blood pressure, chest pain, or breathing difficulties occur, administration should be immediately stopped and appropriate treatment sought. Additionally, rare allergic reactions such as skin rashes may occur, and administration should be halted if such symptoms appear. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, stomatitis, and sporadically diarrhea. Headaches or increased urination may occasionally occur. This medication may cause pain in the veins when administered intravenously, thus it is advisable to inject it as slowly as possible. To prevent bacterial contamination, unused drug solution should not be reused. When opening the ampoule, use the one-point cut method with the mark facing up; apply careful pressure in the opposite direction to cut. The area around the ampoule should be cleaned with alcohol swab to prevent foreign substances from entering. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container should be avoided to prevent quality degradation or accidents.
