This medication is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It helps to lower the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. It also reduces the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, fatal and non-fatal strokes, vascular interventions, congestive heart failure, and angina. In the treatment of hyperlipidemia, it is used as an adjunct to diet in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia to lower LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and to increase HDL cholesterol. It is also effective in patients with dyslipidemia who do not respond adequately to diet. Furthermore, it helps to reduce cholesterol levels in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years with familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is effectively used for improving cardiovascular health and controlling lipid levels.
