Summary

Main use
Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke and improvement of hyperlipidemia
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
For hyperlipidemia, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily; for patients needing greater LDL cholesterol reduction, it can be started at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily (only for cases requiring more than 45% LDL cholesterol reduction). The administered dosage should be adjusted within the range of 10 to 80 mg once daily. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the dose is 10 to 80 mg once daily. Based on treatment goals and response, lipid levels should be assessed at intervals of 2 to 4 weeks to adjust the dosage accordingly. The goal of treatment is to reduce LDL cholesterol levels; thus, monitoring LDL cholesterol levels during treatment initiation and response evaluation is recommended. However, if LDL cholesterol levels cannot be obtained, total cholesterol levels can be used to monitor treatment response. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the dosage of this medication is 10 to 80 mg once daily, administered in conjunction with other lipid-lowering treatments (e.g., LDL apheresis) or when such lipid-lowering treatments are not feasible.
Child dose
For pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10-17), the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 20 mg per day. Dosage should be adjusted based on treatment goals with intervals of 4 weeks or more.

This medication helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It is particularly effective in adults with risk factors for coronary artery disease and patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in lowering the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke. In adult patients with pre-existing heart disease, it reduces the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction and stroke, as well as revascularization procedures, and hospitalization due to heart failure and angina. It is also used to treat hyperlipidemia and acts as an adjuvant in improving blood cholesterol and lipid levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is effective in patients with dyslipidemia or familial hypercholesterolemia that cannot be controlled by diet alone. It is specifically used to lower blood cholesterol levels in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 with familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is used to maintain cardiovascular health and treat hyperlipidemia.
