Improvement of Alzheimer's dementia symptoms
This medication is used to treat symptoms of Alzheimer's dementia. It is effective in improving memory decline and cognitive function to assist patients in their daily lives.
As Donepezil hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once daily before bedtime. If unusual dreams, nightmares, or sleep disturbances occur, consider morning administration. Donepezil concentration reaches a steady state after 15 days of administration, so administer 5 mg for 4-6 weeks. After evaluating clinical response during this period, the dosage may be increased to 10 mg. When increasing to 10 mg, pay attention to gastrointestinal adverse reactions.
This medication contains Donepezil hydrochloride as the active ingredient, which is used to alleviate symptoms of Alzheimer's dementia. This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, it should not be used in persons who have allergies to this drug or its ingredients, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, and patients with lactose intolerance. Patients with heart disease or heart conduction disorders should use this medication with caution. This medication may slow down heart rate or induce arrhythmia. Serious adverse reactions, such as fainting, heart abnormalities, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver dysfunction, cerebrovascular problems, movement disorders, respiratory distress, acute pancreatitis, and acute renal failure, may occur while taking this medication, so one should consult a doctor immediately if any symptoms arise. Additionally, various side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, insomnia, hallucinations, aggressive behavior, myalgia, etc., have been reported, so careful observation is required. This medication may affect the cardiovascular system, causing side effects such as bradycardia or heart block; therefore, patients with heart disease may need regular ECG tests. Driving or operating machinery may be affected, so caution is necessary during initial use or when changing dosages. Pregnant or nursing women are advised not to use this medication, and if it is essential, it should only be decided after consultation with a specialist. This medication may interact with various drugs, so if taking other medications, one must inform healthcare professionals. In case of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, and respiratory depression may occur; therefore, one should visit a medical facility immediately for appropriate treatment.
