Disinfection effect for the surgeon's hands and arms and the surgical site
This medication is used to clean and disinfect the surgeon's hands and arms as part of surgery preparation. It is also effective in sterilizing the skin at the surgical site to prevent infections. Thus, it plays an important role in reducing the risk of infection before surgery and creating a safe surgical environment.
1. Sterilization of the surgeon's hands and arms: Take 5ml of this medication, rub it well into the hands and arms for about 5 minutes to generate sufficient foam, and then wash thoroughly with running water. 2. Sterilization of the surgical site: This medication can be applied directly or used in an appropriate amount, rubbed well to create sufficient foam, and then wiped with sterile gauze.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. Those allergic to this medication or its ingredients should not be administered. Individuals with thyroid issues, especially those with nodular goiter or Hashimoto's thyroiditis, should also refrain from using it. It should not be given to individuals with poor kidney function, as well as newborns and infants under 6 months old. Individuals with herpes dermatitis or those undergoing radioactive iodine treatment before or after should avoid using this medication. Severe burn patients, elderly individuals with a history of thyroid disease, and those with a history of renal failure should use this medication cautiously. This medication may rarely cause severe allergic reactions, and if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, skin rash, or hives occur, the use should be discontinued immediately. Pain, itching, irritation, rash, redness, dermatitis, burning sensation, skin ulcers, and other symptoms may appear, and use should be stopped if these symptoms occur. Using a large amount may result in severe side effects such as electrolyte imbalance, metabolic acidosis, or renal failure. Long-term use may lead to changes in thyroid hormone levels, and some patients may experience a metallic taste or burning sensation in the throat and mouth, irritation and swelling of the eyes, digestive disturbances, or difficulty breathing. Excessive use of this medication warrants caution due to the risk of iodine toxicity side effects. If this medication is used shortly before delivery, it is important to wash the newborn's eyes quickly and bathe them to prevent residue on the skin. If there is no therapeutic effect, surgical intervention should be considered, and it is advisable to wait 1-2 weeks between examinations and administration as it could influence thyroid function tests. As an iodine-containing preparation, particular caution should be exercised when used in large quantities or over long periods to prevent thyroid dysfunction. When infections are present, wounds should be cleaned with saline before using this medication. Interactions with other medications may occur, so patients receiving lithium treatment should avoid regular use of this medication. Moreover, using it together with chlorhexidine, silver compounds, alkalies, and mercury-containing preparations may reduce its sterilizing effects. Using enzyme-containing wound treatments along with it may negate enzyme efficacy, and it should not be used with hydrogen peroxide. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid prolonged or extensive use of this medication, as it may affect the thyroid function of the fetus or newborn, and thyroid function tests are recommended for newborns and infants. The iodine component of this medication can affect thyroid function test results if absorbed through the skin. In case of overdose, symptoms such as upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, severe thirst, abdominal cramps, restlessness, rapid pulse, cyanosis, headache, dizziness, coma, brown discoloration of the oral mucosa, inflammation of the nose and bronchi, gastrointestinal bleeding, edema of the vocal cords, renal bleeding, anuria, and severe symptoms may occur. In case of overdose, consume foods containing starch and protein, and if necessary, detoxification treatment including gastric lavage or intravenous therapy should be administered, while carefully monitoring kidney and thyroid function and treating based on symptoms. This medication should be kept away from the eyes, and if it enters the eyes, it should be rinsed immediately with clean water. Do not mix with other preparations, and it should be applied only after cleaning the affected area thoroughly. If it gets on clothing, it can be easily removed if washed immediately, and since soap may weaken the disinfecting action of this medication, it should be washed off thoroughly. When using electric scalpels, care should be taken to prevent this medication from getting trapped between the skin and the electrode. This medication should be stored away from direct sunlight, and keeping it in metal containers may cause corrosion, so caution is advised.
