Precautions

This medication contains alfuzosin and should not be administered to certain patients. Patients allergic to alfuzosin or any other components of this medication, those with orthostatic hypotension, severely impaired liver function, very poor kidney function, bowel obstruction, those taking other alpha-blockers, and patients on strong CYP3A4 inhibitors should not take this medication. Additionally, some patients, especially those taking antihypertensive medications, may experience orthostatic hypotension after taking this medication, so caution is needed. Signs such as dizziness, fatigue, and sweating may occur, and when symptoms are present, it is advised to lie down and rest. Elderly patients may experience these symptoms more frequently, so special attention is required. Patients with symptoms of orthostatic hypotension or those taking antihypertensive agents or nitrates should be particularly cautious when taking this medication. It is not prescribed as a standalone treatment for patients with coronary artery disease, and if angina worsens, medication should be discontinued. Additionally, caution is required for patients with prolonged QT interval or those taking QT-prolonging drugs. Common side effects of this medication include dizziness, headache, fainting, tachycardia, nausea, abdominal pain, constipation, weakness, and fatigue. Rarely, symptoms such as skin rash, angioedema, erectile dysfunction, and hypotension have also been reported. Patients taking this medication are at risk of intraoperative floppy iris syndrome during cataract surgery, and it is essential to inform the ophthalmologist about the use of this medication before surgery. The tablets must be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed, as this could alter the drug's efficacy and increase the risk of side effects. Patients with a history of severe hypotensive symptoms should take caution when using this medication and ensure that they are adequately informed about the potential for serious side effects such as persistent erections. This medication, when taken with other alpha-blockers or certain antihypertensive agents, may increase the risk of hypotension, and concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors may raise blood concentrations, leading to more severe side effects, thus should be avoided. The safety of this medication has not been established in pregnant or lactating women, and it is not indicated for pediatric patients. Dizziness or weakness may occur in the early stages of use, necessitating caution when driving or operating machinery. In case of overdose, immediate hospitalization for treatment of hypotension is required, and this medication is not removed by dialysis.
