How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dose is 10mg once daily, taken immediately after the evening meal. Do not chew; swallow the tablet whole at once. When administered as adjunctive therapy to catheterization for acute urinary retention related to benign prostatic hyperplasia, the recommended dose is 10mg once daily, taken after a meal starting on the first day of catheterization. Precautions

This medication is an alpha-1 blocker used mainly for blood pressure control and improvement of urination problems. First, this medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to alfuzosin or any of its components, patients with severe orthostatic hypotension, significantly reduced liver function, severely impaired kidney function, bowel obstruction, patients already taking other alpha-blockers, and patients taking medications that strongly inhibit CYP3A4 enzyme. Additionally, symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, and sweating, indicative of orthostatic hypotension, may appear within a few hours of administration, so caution is needed, especially for the elderly or those taking antihypertensive medications. If such symptoms occur, one should lie down until the symptoms completely resolve. This medication should be used cautiously in patients with coronary artery disease or QT interval prolongation, and if angina symptoms worsen, administration should be discontinued. This medication may affect the central nervous system, causing dizziness, headaches, and fainting. Gastrointestinal disorders may include nausea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, and constipation. Allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, and, rarely, hives and angioedema may also occur. If planning cataract surgery while taking this medication, it is important to inform healthcare providers beforehand, as a rare complication known as intraoperative floppy iris syndrome may occur during the procedure. When taking this medication, it should be swallowed whole; crushing or chewing the tablet can cause a rapid onset of action and increase the risk of side effects. Furthermore, taking this medication in conjunction with other antihypertensive agents or nitrate medications may increase the risk of hypotension, so caution is advised. Co-administration with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors is also prohibited. The use of this medication is not recommended in pregnant or breastfeeding women, and it is not indicated for pediatric patients. During treatment with this medication, dizziness or weakness may occur, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. In the case of overdose, immediate hospitalization for appropriate treatment is necessary, as this medication is difficult to remove through dialysis. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is safe not to transfer it to other containers.
