Precautions

This medication contains the ingredient alfuzosin and should not be administered to certain patients. Individuals allergic to alfuzosin or any other ingredient in this medication should not take it. Patients with orthostatic hypotension, severe liver impairment, or significantly reduced kidney function may also be at risk when taking this medication. Patients with intestinal obstruction should not take it due to the inclusion of castor oil. It is also advisable for patients already on other alpha-blockers or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors to avoid using this medication concurrently. Some patients, particularly those on antihypertensive medications, may experience dizziness, fatigue, or sweating upon initial use of this medication due to orthostatic hypotension. In such cases, it is important to lie down and rest until the symptoms completely disappear, especially for older patients who need to be more cautious. Those with heart disease or taking blood pressure medications should also be careful due to the risk of rapid blood pressure drops. Patients with coronary artery disease should not use this medication alone, and the use should be stopped if symptoms of angina worsen. Additionally, it should be administered with caution to patients with prolonged QT interval or those taking medications that prolong the QT interval. Common side effects of this medication may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, dyspepsia, constipation, nausea, and others. Rarely, cardiovascular issues or symptoms like skin rashes and erectile dysfunction have been reported. This medication can induce a rare ophthalmic complication known as intraoperative floppy iris syndrome during cataract surgery, so it is imperative to inform the ophthalmologist about taking this medication before surgery. The tablet must be swallowed whole, as breaking or chewing it may lead to faster absorption and increased risk of side effects. Taking this medication with other alpha-blockers increases the risk of hypotension, and it can also lead to serious side effects like priapism, so if such symptoms occur, immediate medical attention is necessary. This medication should not be taken with certain antihypertensives or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors as it can increase drug concentrations, posing risks. Safety during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not established, and this medication is not for use in children. Dizziness or weakness may occur upon first use, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. In case of overdose, seek medical attention immediately, and this medication is not removed by dialysis. Finally, keep this medication out of the reach of children and ensure not to transfer the medication to another container.
