This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it lowers the risk of heart and cerebrovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction and stroke, and is effective in preventing complications after vascular interventions and alleviating the risk of chronic stable angina. It also lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease in patients with type 2 diabetes who have cardiovascular risk factors. For patients with hyperlipidemia, it helps reduce total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and triglyceride levels while increasing HDL-cholesterol levels. This medication is particularly effective in pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia and improves blood lipid levels when controlled solely by diet is insufficient. Therefore, it is used to manage cardiovascular diseases and hyperlipidemia.
