This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. It can significantly lower the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in patients with risk factors for coronary artery heart disease. It also reduces the risk of vascular surgeries and chronic stable angina. It is effective in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in diabetic patients. In patients clinically confirmed to have coronary artery disease, it is used to reduce the risks of myocardial infarction, stroke, congestive heart failure, and angina. Additionally, it helps lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglyceride levels and increase HDL cholesterol levels in patients with hyperlipidemia. It is used as an adjunct to dietary therapy to improve cholesterol levels in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is used to improve cardiovascular health and manage dyslipidemia.

Precautions

This medication is used to lower blood cholesterol levels. If abnormal symptoms appear in the muscles or muscle enzyme levels rise significantly, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and patients at risk of renal function deterioration due to severe infections, surgeries, or trauma should temporarily stop taking the medication. This drug should not be used by individuals with certain liver diseases, those allergic to any of its components, pregnant or nursing women, children under 10 years old, and patients taking certain other medications. Patients with liver dysfunction, alcoholics, those with a history of muscle disease, and elderly patients aged over 70 should take special precautions when using this medication. While taking this medication, side effects such as muscle pain, weakness, indigestion, headache, abnormal liver function, and skin rash may occur, and if symptoms are severe, a doctor should be consulted. Additionally, this medication is metabolized in the liver, so caution is needed when taken with certain antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, some heart medications, and grapefruit juice, as they can increase blood concentration and heighten the risk of side effects. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant must use contraception, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. Elderly individuals and those with reduced renal function are at higher risk of developing muscle abnormalities, so extra caution is needed during use. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and treatment should focus on monitoring symptoms. It should be stored out of reach of children. If symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, fatigue, or fever occur during use, the patient should immediately inform a physician and have blood tests to check muscle enzyme levels.
