Treatment of male pattern baldness
This medication is used for the treatment of male pattern baldness, specifically androgenetic alopecia, in adult men, particularly those aged 18 to 41 years. Male pattern baldness is a hair loss symptom caused by genetic factors and hormonal influences, and this drug helps to suppress its progression and promotes hair growth. Continuous use may aid in slowing or improving hair loss. It also has a positive effect in reducing stress and anxiety related to hair loss. Therefore, it is a suitable treatment option for those concerned about hair loss.
Usually, finasteride is taken orally at a dose of 1 mg once daily, regardless of meals. Generally, it takes more than 3 months of continuous use to see treatment effects, and continued usage is recommended to maintain the therapeutic effect. The treatment duration and effectiveness should be evaluated continuously. Discontinuation of treatment will result in the loss of therapeutic effects within 12 months.
This medication should not be administered to pediatric patients or women. Particularly, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid contact with any broken pieces of this medication, as the ingredients can be absorbed through the skin and may harm the fetus. Depression or mood changes may occur during the use of this medication, so if such symptoms arise, medical consultation should be sought immediately. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should not take this medication, and those with a hypersensitivity to this drug or those taking other 5-alpha reductase inhibitors should also avoid its use. Additionally, individuals with lactose intolerance, soy oil, soybean, or peanut allergies should use this medication with caution. Patients with poor liver function or an allergy to Yellow No. 5 should use this medication cautiously. This medication may cause sexual side effects such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders; however, most symptoms improve after discontinuation of the drug. Long-term use may rarely report breast tenderness or enlargement, and even breast cancer, so it is important to inform a doctor of any abnormal symptoms. This medication may affect the risk of prostate cancer, so regular examinations are necessary, especially for men over 55 years of age. Significant drug interactions have not been reported, but careful monitoring is advised when used in combination with other medications. This medication is not for use in pregnant or nursing women, and safety and efficacy in children have not been established. There is no need for dosage adjustment in elderly patients, although its effectiveness is not clear. This medication may alter prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, so caution is needed in interpreting test results. There is no specific treatment for overdose, but immediate medical attention should be sought if symptoms occur. Keep out of reach of children and avoid transferring to another container.
