Relief of symptoms of gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, and gastroesophageal reflux disease
This medication is used for the treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers and helps alleviate the symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also used as a long-term maintenance therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease, and in combination with antibiotics for patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori, it enhances therapeutic efficacy. It is also used in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Thus, it is effective for the treatment of various gastrointestinal diseases.
Gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer: Generally, 10 mg is administered orally once daily, and depending on symptoms, it may be increased to 20 mg once daily. For gastric ulcers, treatment duration is up to 8 weeks, and for duodenal ulcers, up to 6 weeks. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10 mg or 20 mg is administered orally once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If symptoms persist after 8 weeks, an additional 10 mg or 20 mg may be given twice daily for another 8 weeks.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. Patients who have had allergies or hypersensitivity reactions to this medication or its components should not use it. Additionally, patients allergic to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics should be cautious when using this medication. Particularly, it can cause serious side effects when combined with certain medications, so patients must inform their physician about any medications they are currently taking. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid using this medication. Patients with poor liver function or the elderly need to exercise additional caution when using this medication, and caution is also necessary for those with a history of drug allergies. This medication can cause various side effects, including allergic reactions such as skin rash or itching. Changes in blood cell counts may occur, suggesting the need for regular blood tests. It can affect various body parts, including liver dysfunction, gastrointestinal symptoms, neurological symptoms, and respiratory issues. Any unusual symptoms should be reported to a doctor immediately. Long-term use may increase the risk of fractures and can lead to electrolyte imbalances such as hypomagnesemia, necessitating regular check-ups and management. This medication suppresses gastric acid secretion, which may slightly increase the risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract, so notify healthcare providers if diarrhea or infection symptoms persist. Caution is advised while driving or operating machinery due to potential drowsiness, and any other medications currently being taken should be reported due to possible interactions. It is recommended to avoid this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and the elderly or patients with decreased liver function should be cautious of unusual reactions when taking this medication. This medication should be swallowed whole in tablet form and not chewed or crushed, and it should be stored out of reach of children. In case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, so treatment should be symptomatic according to the symptoms present.
