Precautions

This drug is used as an antibiotic to treat infections. However, caution should be taken as severe colitis known as pseudomembranous colitis may occur when using this medication. This drug is used in cream form applied to the skin or vagina, and approximately 5% may be absorbed into the body, so if diarrhea persists, colitis should be suspected. Individuals with allergies to clindamycin or lincomycin should not use this drug, and patients with a history of colitis or ulcerative colitis should also avoid its administration. This medication contains propylene glycol, so those allergic to this ingredient should use it with caution. Adverse reactions such as headaches, dizziness, skin rash, itching, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may occur during use, and if symptoms are severe, a doctor should be consulted. It may cause irritation if it comes into contact with the eyes, so care should be taken to avoid eye contact, and if contact occurs, rinse with plenty of water immediately. It is recommended to avoid vaginal cleansers or vaginal intercourse during the use of this medication. Additionally, this drug can disrupt the normal bacterial balance in the vagina, leading to excessive proliferation of yeast, so if symptoms of infection arise, inform the healthcare provider. During pregnancy, it should only be used when necessary, and especially in early pregnancy, it should be administered with caution. If breastfeeding, consult a doctor as this drug may be excreted in breast milk, which could cause adverse reactions in the baby. Safety in children has not been adequately confirmed, so it should be used with caution in pediatric patients. There may be interactions with other medications, so it is essential to inform the doctor, especially if taking neuromuscular blockers or certain antibiotics. This medication may weaken latex or rubber products, so caution is needed when using condoms.
