This medication is used as an adjunct for patients with hypertension who have difficulty controlling blood pressure with monotherapy alone. It helps manage blood pressure more effectively and reduces the occurrence of complications.

How to take

Adult dose

Losartan potassium 50 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, 1 tablet. A dosage exceeding Losartan potassium 100 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg per day is not preferable. 1. Start therapy with Losartan potassium 50 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, and if blood pressure is not controlled after 3 weeks of administration, the maximum dose of Losartan potassium 100 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg can be considered.

Child dose

There is no experience of use in children and adolescents; therefore, the combination of losartan and hydrochlorothiazide should not be administered to children and adolescents.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus, especially during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients with allergies to any of the ingredients in this drug, severely impaired kidney function, significantly reduced liver function, or certain electrolyte abnormalities should not take this medication. Patients with specific diseases such as hypotension, renal disease, liver disease, diabetes, hyperuricemia, and cerebrovascular disease should use this drug cautiously, especially elderly patients who are at higher risk for side effects. While this medication assists in blood pressure control, various side effects such as edema, dizziness, cough, skin rash, muscle pain, and indigestion may occur, so consult a doctor if any abnormal symptoms arise. Regular blood tests and kidney function tests should be conducted during treatment to avoid electrolyte imbalances. It may especially affect potassium levels; therefore, potassium supplements or potassium-rich foods should not be consumed without a doctor's direction. There may be interactions with other medications, so if you are taking other drugs, be sure to inform your healthcare provider, and it is advisable to avoid consuming grapefruit juice simultaneously. This medication may also affect nursing women, whether to continue breastfeeding or consult a physician is necessary. It is not recommended for use in children or adolescents as safety has not been established. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur at the beginning of treatment or when changing dosages; caution is required when driving or operating machinery. Keep this medicine out of reach of children and store it in its original container.

Serious side effects

Urticaria, angioedema (swelling of the lips and eyelids and facial rash), angioedema (swelling of the larynx and glottis which can cause airway obstruction, swelling of the face/lips/pharynx/tongue), severe swelling (edema), cold sweat, pallor, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, severe rash with fever, blistering, skin peeling, pain in mucosal areas of the mouth/eyes, jaundice (intrahepatic cholestatic jaundice), extreme lethargy, acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Mild side effects

Abdominal pain, edema/swelling, palpitations, lower back pain, dizziness, cough, sinusitis, upper respiratory infection, weakness/fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, headache, bronchitis, pharyngitis, chest pain, facial swelling, fever, orthostatic hypotension, syncope, angina, arrhythmia (atrial fibrillation, sinus bradycardia, tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation), cerebrovascular accident, hypotension, myocardial infarction, secondary atrioventricular block, anorexia, constipation, toothache, dry mouth, indigestion, flatulence, gastric inflammation, vomiting.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container that protects it from light and kept at a temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Storing it this way will ensure that the ingredients remain stable and the medication maintains its effectiveness.
