View approved original text

This medication is used to assist weight loss in obese patients with a body mass index (BMI) over 30 or patients with a BMI over 27 who have risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, or dyslipidemia, who do not respond to appropriate dietary and exercise regimens. It should be taken alone, without combining with other appetite suppressants, as a short-term adjunct to caloric restriction-based weight loss therapy. Specifically, this medication plays a supportive role in the treatment of exogenous obesity, aiding in the restoration of health and weight control for the patient.

This medication should only be used alone for a short period, as serious heart problems may occur when used with other appetite suppressants. Prolonged use of this medication may significantly increase the risk of a serious lung condition called pulmonary hypertension; therefore, if symptoms such as shortness of breath or chest pain occur, use should be discontinued immediately, and evaluation should be sought. It's important to check heart conditions before administration due to potential associations with valvular heart disease; it is advisable not to use it in patients with heart problems or murmurs. Individuals with certain heart diseases, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, mental instability, or a history of substance abuse should not use this medication. Children under 16 years of age and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should also not take this medication. Patients with mild hypertension, diabetes, or nursing mothers should exercise particular caution while using this medication, and individuals with diabetes may need to adjust their insulin doses. This medication may cause increased heart rate or blood pressure, and a variety of side effects such as anxiety, insomnia, dizziness, dry mouth, and digestive disorders can occur. Tolerance may develop, leading to reduced effectiveness; therefore, do not increase the dose and discontinue use. Caution is needed when engaging in hazardous activities such as driving or operating machinery. In case of overdose, severe central nervous system and cardiovascular symptoms may occur, requiring immediate appropriate treatment at a hospital.
