View approved original text

This medication is used to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in combination with other oral hypoglycemic agents (sulfonylureas, metformin) or insulin. It is often used in combination when there is no improvement in blood sugar with other medications. Additionally, it is very important for patients with type 2 diabetes to also engage in nutritional counseling, weight loss, and exercise. These lifestyle modifications help not only with initial treatment but also in maintaining the efficacy of the medication. Therefore, this medication is effectively used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
