This medication helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, the need for vascular procedures, and angina in adults with various risk factors for cardiovascular disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. It also has a beneficial effect in reducing the risk of hospitalization due to congestive heart failure in patients with clinical evidence. For patients with hyperlipidemia, it is used to reduce total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels, while increasing HDL-cholesterol levels. It is particularly used as an adjunct to diet in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, as well as in patients with elevated serum triglycerides. It is also used effectively to reduce total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels in children aged 10 to 17 with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, this medication is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and improve dyslipidemia.
