Improvement of postprandial hyperglycemia in diabetes mellitus
This medication is used in patients with diabetes who are following a dietary and exercise regimen but are not achieving adequate control of postprandial hyperglycemia. It is also helpful in cases where blood sugar control is difficult even while taking oral hypoglycemic agents or insulin. This aids in improving postprandial blood sugar and can assist with diabetes management. It is used to develop an appropriate treatment plan based on the patient's blood sugar control status. It is most effective when taken safely alongside lifestyle modifications. This medication is used for the improvement of postprandial hyperglycemia in diabetes.
Since efficacy and tolerability vary among patients, the dose must be determined by a physician according to the patient's condition. The usual dosage is as follows. Adults are usually given 0.2mg of voglibose orally 3 times daily before each meal. If the effect is insufficient, the dose per administration may be increased to 0.3mg while carefully monitoring the patient's progress.
This medication should not be used in specific patients. For example, it is contraindicated in patients with severe ketoacidosis or diabetic coma, those with severe infections or patients undergoing surgery, and those allergic to any components of this drug. Additionally, it should be used cautiously in patients with gastrointestinal disorders or those prone to excessive gas, as symptoms may worsen. It should also be used with caution in patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction, the elderly, and those taking other hypoglycemic agents. While taking this medication, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur; therefore, if hypoglycemia is suspected, it is advisable to consume glucose instead of sugar. Symptoms such as abdominal bloating or increased flatulence may also occur, and there should be careful monitoring for symptoms of liver dysfunction. It is used only in patients with diabetes and should be considered for administration only when dietary and exercise regimens are being followed. Blood sugar levels should be regularly monitored, and if blood sugar control is still inadequate after 2-3 months, alternative treatment methods should be reviewed. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should use this medication cautiously after consulting a physician, as its safety has not been established, especially during breastfeeding, and it is advisable to avoid use if possible. Safety in children has not been confirmed, so it is preferable not to use in this population. In elderly patients, due to decreased bodily function, treatment should start at a low dose, with careful observation of blood sugar and gastrointestinal symptoms. This medication may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used in combination with other hypoglycemic agents, so patients should be thoroughly informed about hypoglycemic symptoms and how to respond to them. Moreover, since it may interact with specific medications affecting blood sugar control, it is essential to check for interactions with other medications being taken.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent exposure to air and moisture. It is best to maintain a storage temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature.
