This medication is used in conjunction with meal and exercise therapy to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be taken alone and, in cases where blood sugar control is difficult with other oral hypoglycemic agents, it can be used in combination with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin. It is important for patients with type 2 diabetes to also engage in nutritional counseling, consider weight loss as needed, and maintain regular exercise. Such lifestyle improvements are significantly beneficial not only for initial treatment effects but also for sustaining the efficacy of drug therapy. This medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered orally once daily at a dose of 15 mg regardless of meals. If the initial dosage does not provide sufficient effect, it can be increased to 30 mg once daily. Precautions

This medication may cause or worsen congestive heart failure in some patients, so symptoms and signs of heart failure should be carefully monitored at the start of treatment or after dosage increases. This medication should not be used in patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure, and if symptoms of heart failure occur, a doctor should be consulted immediately. This medication can cause fluid retention which may aggravate edema or heart failure, so healthcare personnel should be notified if symptoms of fluid retention appear. Patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer should not take this medication, and if symptoms such as hematuria or urination difficulties occur, they should promptly inform a doctor. Patients with impaired liver function or severe kidney impairment should preferably avoid this medication and have regular liver function and kidney function tests. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and women of childbearing potential should consider appropriate contraception while taking this medication as the risk of pregnancy may increase. Due to potential hypoglycemia, caution should be exercised for symptoms of hypoglycemia when used with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents, and dosages of other medications should be adjusted as necessary. Elderly patients or those with poor nutritional status or those engaging in vigorous exercise should use this medication cautiously, and regular monitoring for weight gain and edema is advised. During therapy, blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, and weight should be monitored regularly, and any adverse symptoms should be reported to healthcare personnel immediately. In case of an overdose, there may be no specific symptoms, but appropriate treatment should be received according to symptoms. Keep the medication out of reach of children and store it in its original container.
