This medication decreases the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with various risk factors for coronary artery heart disease and patients with type 2 diabetes, and reduces the risk related to vascular interventions and angina. Moreover, it significantly reduces the risk of fatal and non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, and hospitalization due to congestive heart failure in patients with clinically evident coronary artery heart disease, thereby improving overall cardiovascular health. This drug helps lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglycerides while increasing HDL cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and various dyslipidemias. It can be used in combination with or as an alternative to other treatments in patients with hyperlipidemia that are not controlled by diet alone, or in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. In pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, this medication may be used as an adjunct to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Overall, this medication is used to reduce the risks associated with cardiovascular disease and hyperlipidemia and to improve cardiovascular health by managing blood lipid levels.
