Reduction of risk for myocardial infarction and stroke, improved high cholesterol
This medication helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and vascular complications in adults with cardiovascular disease risk factors and patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it reduces the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular procedures, hospitalization for congestive heart failure, and angina in patients with coronary artery disease. In the treatment of hyperlipidemia, it is used to lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, and to increase HDL cholesterol levels. It is also prescribed as an adjunctive treatment in patients with dyslipidemia who do not respond to dietary measures or in severe familial hypercholesterolemia patients. In children, it helps control cholesterol levels in patients aged 10 to 17 with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is used for improving cardiovascular health and managing hyperlipidemia.
Administer 10 to 80 mg once daily at any time without regard to meals. The initial dosage is 10 mg once daily, and if greater reductions in LDL cholesterol are required, it can be started at 20 mg or 40 mg. The dose should be individualized based on treatment goals and response, with dosage adjustments after 2 to 4 weeks.
For pediatric patients aged 10 to 17, the recommended initial dosage is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum recommended dosage of 20 mg daily. The dose should be adjusted at intervals of 4 weeks or longer according to treatment goals.
