Precautions

This medicine should not be administered to premature infants or neonates as it may cause serious respiratory problems due to the presence of benzyl alcohol. Patients with allergy or hypersensitivity to any ingredient in this medication should not use it. Patients with conditions that may cause persistent erections, such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia, may also be at risk when using this medication. Do not administer this medication to patients with anatomical abnormalities of the penis or those with penile implants, as well as those for whom intercourse is contraindicated. Patients with lactose intolerance or specific metabolic disorders should not use this medication due to the lactose contained in it. The most common side effect when using this medication is pain in the penis, which is mostly mild or moderate and does not significantly interfere with intercourse. In some patients, prolonged erections lasting longer than 4 hours (priapism) may occur. If an erection lasts longer than 4 hours, contact a physician immediately. Fibrosis or nodules may develop in the penis; therefore, regular observation of the condition of the penis during prolonged use is necessary, and if abnormalities are found, use should be discontinued. Localized reactions such as hematoma, bleeding, swelling, and itching may occur at the injection site, and rarely, systemic symptoms such as headache, high blood pressure, and infection may emerge. Caution is advised as the risk of bleeding increases when this medication is used with anticoagulants. Overdose may lead to priapism; in such cases, appropriate measures like aspiration or pharmacotherapy should be taken. The initial injection should be performed by a healthcare professional, and for subsequent self-injections, proper training on injection techniques and dosages is necessary. Before use, this medication must be diluted according to the established method, and the diluted solution should be used immediately and not stored.
