Precautions

It is very important not to use this medicine in women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and in breastfeeding women. This medicine should not be administered to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, obstruction, or perforation, as it can stimulate gastrointestinal motility. In patients with chromaffin cell tumors that cause elevated blood pressure, this medicine may worsen blood pressure, so it should not be administered. Patients with allergies to this medication or those who cannot tolerate it should also avoid its use. This medicine should not be administered to patients with epilepsy, manic phases in bipolar disorder, or those with conditions that may worsen symptoms. Patients with malignancies in the breast tissue should not take this medicine, as side effects may cause breast-related issues. This medicine contains lactose, so it is safest for patients with lactose intolerance or hereditary carbohydrate malabsorption disorders not to use it. Hypertensive patients, children, and the elderly should use this medicine with extra caution, especially children, as extrapyramidal symptoms may appear, requiring dosage adjustment. This medication may cause side effects such as amenorrhea, excessive lactation, or gynecomastia due to hormonal secretion abnormalities, so it should be discontinued immediately if such symptoms occur. Rarely, neurological side effects such as tremors, abnormal tongue movements, and restlessness may occur, necessitating cessation of the medication if they appear. Long-term use may lead to involuntary movements in the face or around the mouth, which may persist even after stopping the medication. Gastrointestinal side effects may include dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. In terms of cardiac effects, hypertension and arrhythmias may occur, so caution is warranted. In severe cases, a dangerous condition known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome may occur, characterized by high fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness, requiring immediate discontinuation of the medication and treatment at a hospital. Occasional rashes or swelling may appear, along with flushing, fatigue, insomnia, drowsiness, dizziness, staggering, and rarely, erectile dysfunction. During the use of this medication, it is advisable to avoid activities requiring concentration, such as driving or operating machinery. Caution should be exercised when using this medication with others, as interactions may exacerbate side effects, and it should specifically not be taken with alcohol. Particularly in cases of concurrent use with medications that may affect the heart, the risk of arrhythmia increases, so it should be used carefully under a doctor's guidance. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this medication as it may pose risks to the fetus or newborn. Elderly patients must take care regarding dose adjustment and observation of side effects, as reduced kidney function may prolong the duration of the drug in the body. This medication has the effect of suppressing nausea, which may mask vomiting caused by other factors, so caution is advised, and there have been reports of diminished reproductive function or increased tumor risk associated with long-term high-dose use.
