Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux, prevention of recurrent reflux esophagitis, and prevention of NSAID-induced ulcers
This medication is used to treat symptoms related to mild gastroesophageal reflux disease such as heartburn, acid reflux, and dysphagia. It is also effective as a long-term maintenance therapy to prevent the recurrence of reflux esophagitis. For patients who need to continue taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), this medication helps prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers. Therefore, it plays an important role in the treatment and prevention of gastrointestinal diseases.
1. Treatment of mild gastroesophageal reflux disease and related symptoms Administer 20 mg of pantoprazole orally once daily before breakfast. Symptom relief generally occurs within 2 ∼ 4 weeks, and healing can usually be achieved with 4 weeks of treatment. If healing does not occur, it may be achieved with an additional 4 weeks of treatment. 2. Long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of reflux esophagitis Administer 20 mg of pantoprazole once daily before breakfast. If recurrence occurs, increase the daily dose of pantoprazole to 40 mg, then reduce it back to 20 mg daily after healing. 3. Prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in patients requiring continuous treatment with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs Administer 20mg of pantoprazole once daily. No dose adjustment is necessary in older adults or patients with renal impairment. Patients with hepatic impairment Do not exceed 20 mg of this medicine once daily in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
This medication should not be used in patients with certain allergic reactions. Patients currently taking certain medications such as atazanavir, nelfinavir, or rilpivirine should not use it concurrently. It is advisable for pregnant women in the early stages or those who are breastfeeding to avoid using this medication. Patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should also avoid this medication. Possible side effects may include gastric discomfort, fatigue, abnormal liver function, skin rash, and others. Serious allergic reactions, liver damage, nephritis, and skin conditions may occur rarely and require caution. Regular health check-ups are necessary for long-term use, and if liver function abnormalities are detected, use should be stopped immediately. This medication should not be used for mild gastric or intestinal pain. Long-term use may interfere with vitamin B12 absorption, necessitating caution. There may be an increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding when used with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Long-term high-dose use may increase the risk of fractures. Prolonged use of more than three months may lead to hypomagnesemia, necessitating monitoring of serum magnesium levels. This medication lowers gastric acidity, potentially increasing the risk of certain bacterial infections, so consultation with a doctor is necessary if diarrhea persists. Dizziness or vision disturbances may occur, so caution is required when driving or operating machinery. The toxicity of medications may be increased when combined with methotrexate, so consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. Minimum dosage and appropriate duration must be adhered to. Long-term use may lead to changes in gastric tissue, thus regular examinations are needed. Severe renal problems such as acute interstitial nephritis may arise, necessitating immediate discontinuation if symptoms occur. This medication may induce or exacerbate autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus; if related symptoms appear, referral to a specialist is required. It may affect blood tests, so temporary discontinuation may be necessary before specific tests. Long-term use may increase the risk of gastric polyps, necessitating periodic gastric endoscopy. Interactions may occur with other drugs, so healthcare professionals must be informed of any other medications being taken. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid using this medication, and its use in children under the age of 12 is not recommended. There are no specific symptoms known for overdose, but if symptoms appear, consulting with healthcare professionals immediately is necessary. This medication should be taken whole without chewing or crushing, and careful evaluation of benefits versus risks is necessary for long-term use. When storing, keep it out of the reach of children and do not transfer to another container.
