Efficacy & effects

Surface anesthesia in dentistry and otorhinolaryngology, pain relief during instrument insertion.

View approved original text

This medication is used for surface anesthesia in dentistry before injections, for taking dental impressions, performing X-rays, and during tartar removal. In otorhinolaryngology, it provides anesthetic effects during maxillary sinus puncture or simple surgical procedures in the nasal cavity, pharynx, and nasopharynx, as well as during puncture procedures. It also assists in pain relief during the insertion of instruments or catheters into the respiratory and digestive tracts, including during endotracheal tube insertion, laryngoscopy, bronchoscopy, and esophagoscopy. In obstetrics, it is utilized to assist with pain relief during the final stages of delivery or prior to episiotomy and suturing. Overall, it is used effectively to provide surface anesthesia across multiple medical fields, helping to reduce patient discomfort.

Precautions

This medication is an amide-type local anesthetic and should not be used by individuals who are allergic to this drug or similar medications. Careful use is required for patients with wounds or infections at the application site, patients with epilepsy, patients with cardiac, liver, or kidney dysfunction, elderly patients, and patients in very poor general health. While using this drug, patients should be closely monitored for adverse reactions such as shock symptoms, blood pressure drop, irregular heartbeats, and difficulty breathing. Because it may affect the central nervous system, if symptoms such as trembling, convulsions, drowsiness, dizziness, or nausea occur, use should be discontinued immediately, and appropriate treatment should be pursued. Excessive dosage or repeated administration at short intervals may lead to increased blood concentration and serious side effects, so it is crucial to adhere to the prescribed dosage and intervals. Caution is advised when applying to areas with mucosal damage, as this may increase drug absorption and the risk of side effects. It is also recommended to have resuscitation equipment and drugs ready in case of emergencies. When sprayed in the mouth or throat, the patient may find it difficult to swallow, or their tongue may become numb, increasing the risk of biting the mouth. When used in conjunction with other medications that may affect heart function, careful monitoring of cardiac status is necessary. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication after consulting a physician, when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks, and it may be secreted in small amounts during breastfeeding, though it generally does not have a significant impact on infants. In case of overdose, serious toxic reactions may occur in the central nervous system and cardiovascular system, requiring immediate emergency treatment, and if convulsions persist, professional medical attention should be sought. This drug should not be used for ophthalmic purposes, and care should be taken not to exceed the prescribed dose with the spray container. When using this drug, always closely monitor the patient’s status and apply the minimum dose to the necessary areas to prevent side effects.
