Improvement of Alzheimer's type dementia symptoms
This medicine is used to improve symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia, such as memory decline, reduced cognitive function, and difficulties in daily life. It helps to protect the patient's brain function and slow the progression of symptoms, thereby improving the quality of daily life. Therefore, it is effective for the treatment of Alzheimer's type dementia.
For donepezil hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once daily before bedtime. During 4 to 6 weeks, administer the 5 mg dose, and then evaluate clinical response to increase up to 10 mg. When increasing to 10 mg per day, pay attention to gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Underweight female patients over 85 years old should not exceed 5 mg daily and require careful monitoring.
There is no experience of use in children.
This medicine contains donepezil hydrochloride as its main ingredient and is used for the treatment of Alzheimer's type dementia. Firstly, this medicine should not be administered to certain patients. For instance, individuals who are allergic to this medicine or its components, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, and nursing mothers should not use it. Additionally, patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance or galactose intolerance should not take this medicine. Patients with heart disease or heart conduction disorders should use this medicine cautiously, as it may cause cardiac issues such as bradycardia or arrhythmia. Patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or with a history of peptic ulcers should be cautious due to the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding or exacerbation of ulcers. Patients with asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease should be cautious as their symptoms may worsen due to bronchoconstriction or increased mucus secretion. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease may also experience worsening of their symptoms, requiring careful administration. This medicine can cause various adverse reactions, and in severe cases, symptoms such as syncope, heart block, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver dysfunction, cerebrovascular disorders, muscle abnormalities, respiratory distress, acute pancreatitis, and acute renal failure may occur. Generally, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, insomnia, myalgia, headache, and fatigue have been frequently reported. This medicine can affect the heart, and patients with heart disease or a history of QT interval prolongation may require electrocardiogram monitoring. Additionally, it may increase gastric acid secretion, exacerbating peptic ulcers, so periodic checking of gastric condition is necessary. As it may affect driving or machine operation ability, caution is needed during the initial dosage or when changing the dose. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid using this medicine, and if necessary, nursing should be discontinued. This medicine is metabolized in the liver, and interactions may occur when taken with certain drugs, so consultation with a physician or pharmacist is necessary. In case of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, and respiratory depression may occur, and treatment may involve the use of antidotes like atropine. Finally, this medicine should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers is not advisable for quality maintenance.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweats, paleness, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin sloughing, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, labored breathing or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory anomalies accompanied by cough and fever, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), extreme drowsiness, sudden and severe headaches, thunderclap headaches, seizures, consciousness disturbances, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination.
