Reduction of risk of myocardial infarction and stroke and treatment of hyperlipidemia
This medicine helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease or in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it reduces the risk of hospitalization due to revascularization, angina, and congestive heart failure, improving cardiovascular health. It is also effective in treating hyperlipidemia by lowering total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels while raising HDL cholesterol levels. It is used in conjunction with dietary management to lower cholesterol levels in pediatric patients with familial hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, this medicine is widely used for reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and treating dyslipidemia.
The recommended initial dose for treating hyperlipidemia is 10 mg once daily; if greater LDL cholesterol reduction is needed, doses of 20 mg or 40 mg may be initiated once daily. The dosage can be adjusted within the range of 10 to 80 mg once daily. Lipid levels should be analyzed and dosages adjusted within 2 to 4 weeks after treatment initiation and dosage adjustment. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the dosage is once daily
The recommended initial dose for pediatric patients (10-17 years) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 20 mg per day. Dosage adjustment should occur at intervals of at least 4 weeks.
