Improvement of type 2 diabetes (blood sugar control)
This medication is an adjunct to diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone, but if other oral hypoglycemic agents are ineffective, it can be combined with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin. Additionally, patients with type 2 diabetes should undergo nutritional counseling, weight loss, and regular exercise, as these efforts are very important for maintaining the effectiveness of the medication. This drug is used to improve blood sugar control.
This medication is taken orally once daily, regardless of meals. The initial dose for monotherapy is 15 mg once daily, and if the effect is insufficient, it may be increased to 30 mg once daily. When used in combination with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin, the initial dose is 15 mg once daily. The maximum recommended dose should not exceed 30 mg once daily.
Use in patients under 18 years of age is not recommended due to lack of experience.
This medication is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and helps control blood sugar by improving insulin resistance. However, it may put a strain on the heart in some patients, and should not be used in patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure. While taking this medication, patients should be closely monitored for sudden weight gain or symptoms of heart failure such as shortness of breath, and consult a doctor immediately if these symptoms occur. Also, this drug may cause fluid retention leading to edema, so it should be used with caution in patients who have edema. This medication should not be administered to patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer, and any symptoms of hematuria or urinary problems during treatment should be reported to a doctor immediately. Patients with poor liver function or severe kidney impairment also require caution when taking this drug, and regular liver function tests and kidney function tests should be conducted. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant are advised not to use this medication, and premenopausal women may need appropriate contraception as it can stimulate ovulation. There is an increased risk of hypoglycemia when this medication is used in combination with other hypoglycemic agents or insulin, so patients should be well aware of hypoglycemia symptoms and may need to adjust the doses of other medications if necessary. Elderly patients, those with poor nutritional status, patients engaged in vigorous exercise, and those with excessive alcohol consumption should also exercise caution for the risk of hypoglycemia. Regular blood glucose and liver function tests should be conducted during treatment, and it is important to inform healthcare personnel of any unusual symptoms. Finally, this medication is not recommended for children as safety and efficacy have not been established.
