Improvement and treatment of type 2 diabetes (blood sugar control)
This medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It mainly acts as an adjunct to dietary management and exercise, and can be administered alone. If there is no improvement in blood sugar even after using other oral hypoglycemics, it may be used in combination with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin. Additionally, it is important for patients with type 2 diabetes to undergo nutritional counseling, weight loss, and regular exercise. These efforts significantly help sustain the effectiveness of the medication not only in the initial treatment but also thereafter. Therefore, this medication is used to effectively improve blood sugar control.
This medication is administered orally once a day regardless of meals. It can start at 15 mg once daily as monotherapy, and if effectiveness is insufficient, it can be increased up to 30 mg once daily. In combination therapy, the initial dose is also 15 mg once daily, and the maximum recommended dose should not exceed 30 mg once daily.
There is no experience of use in children under 18 years, therefore administration is not recommended.
This medication is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, and blood sugar control effectiveness is achieved only in the presence of insulin. This medication can put strain on the heart, so it should not be used in patients with congestive heart failure, and symptoms of heart failure (such as rapid weight gain, shortness of breath, swelling, etc.) should be monitored carefully during treatment. Additionally, it can cause fluid retention, which may worsen symptoms of edema or heart failure, hence caution is required for patients with heart disease or impaired kidney function. While taking this medication, symptoms of hypoglycemia may occur, especially when taken alongside insulin or other hypoglycemics, so one should be prepared for the risk of hypoglycemia. This medication should not be administered to patients with bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer, and if symptoms such as hematuria or urinary disturbances arise during treatment, the physician should be notified immediately. Patients with liver dysfunction should undergo regular liver function tests before and during the use of this medication, and if symptoms of liver damage (fatigue, loss of appetite, jaundice, etc.) appear, prompt medical attention should be sought. This medication may induce ovulation in premenopausal women, so effective contraception should be used if pregnancy is not desired. In elderly patients or those with diminished kidney function, caution is needed in the use of this medication, and regular monitoring is essential as weight gain and edema may occur. Finally, it is crucial to follow the physician's instructions when taking this medication and to consult immediately if any unusual symptoms arise during treatment.
Congestive heart failure, symptoms and signs of heart failure (including excessive and rapid weight changes, shortness of breath, swelling), severe allergic reactions (hives, severe swelling, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor), liver abnormalities (jaundice, yellowing of skin or eyes, extreme lethargy), severe edema or urinary irregularities (decreased urine output, generalized swelling, high blood pressure), hospitalization due to hypoglycemia, severe skin reactions
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
