This medication is used for myocardial ischemia caused by vasospasm or vascular contraction in coronary vascular conditions such as hypertension, stable angina, and variant angina. It is also effective in reducing the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients recently diagnosed with coronary heart disease via angiography but without heart failure or decreased cardiac output, as well as lowering the risk of coronary artery revascularization. With this efficacy, it helps in the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases, improving the patient's condition.

Precautions

It is very important that this medication is not used by certain patients. For instance, individuals who have had allergic reactions to this medication or similar drugs should avoid taking it. Additionally, breastfeeding women, patients with severe liver dysfunction, those with severe aortic stenosis, and patients in shock should not take this medication. Patients requiring caution include those with very low blood pressure, patients needing kidney dialysis, elderly individuals, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant; they must use this medication cautiously. Pregnant women should particularly consult with their physician before taking this medication. This drug generally has good tolerability, but side effects such as flushing, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headaches, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea may occur during use. Rarely, various side effects like hypotension, vasculitis, neurological abnormalities, erectile dysfunction, skin rashes, and liver dysfunction have also been reported. Patients with weakened heart functions or liver dysfunction must exercise extra caution when taking this medication, and it can take time for blood pressure to gradually decrease after discontinuation; therefore, when using with other blood pressure medications, they should follow the guidance of a healthcare professional. This drug may not be suitable for the urgent treatment of heart conditions. This medication has the potential for drug interactions, particularly when taken with certain antibiotics, analgesics, blood pressure medications, and grapefruit juice. Taking it with grapefruit juice may amplify its effects and is not recommended. If pregnant or breastfeeding, the safety of this medication has not been established; it should only be used under the guidance of a physician when absolutely necessary, and breastfeeding should ideally be paused. This medication is only approved for use in children above a certain age, so it should not be used in children under 6 years old. In case of overdose, blood pressure may drop excessively and heart rate may increase rapidly, which may require emergency treatment. In such cases, patients should go to a hospital immediately for proper measures; gastric lavage or administration of activated charcoal may help reduce drug absorption. Finally, although this medication is known to have little effect on driving or operating machinery, caution is needed as individuals may experience dizziness.
