This drug is effective for myocardial ischemia caused by hypertension and stable or variant angina. It is also used to reduce the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients who have confirmed coronary artery disease via recent angiography, provided they do not have heart failure or a cardiac output of less than 40%. Therefore, it helps improve cardiovascular health and manage angina.

Precautions

It is very important not to use this drug in certain patients. For example, patients who are allergic to this drug or similar medications, patients with severe liver dysfunction, patients with severe aortic stenosis, patients in a state of shock, and nursing women should not be administered this drug. Additionally, careful use is required for patients with severe hypotension, those requiring dialysis due to renal failure, the elderly, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Special care is needed if pregnant, and use should only be considered if no safe alternative medications are available. During the use of this drug, side effects such as flushing, fatigue, edema, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea may occur. Rarely, symptoms such as hypotension, vasculitis, neurological anomalies, erectile dysfunction, skin rashes, and liver dysfunction have been reported; therefore, immediate consultation with medical personnel is necessary if any abnormal symptoms occur. For patients with heart failure, attention is required as this drug may increase the risk of pulmonary edema, and dosage adjustment and careful monitoring are necessary for patients with liver dysfunction. Additionally, since this drug's effect occurs gradually, it is not suitable for situations requiring rapid blood pressure reduction. When taking this drug, careful attention should be paid to interactions with other medications. Particularly, taking it with grapefruit juice may excessively enhance its effect, so it is advisable to avoid this combination. Caution should be exercised when used concomitantly with certain antibiotics, antihypertensives, and immunosuppressants as directed by healthcare providers. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid this drug, as its safety has not been established; if breastfeeding, it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding during the medication duration. For children, the antihypertensive effect of this drug has only been confirmed in those 6 years and older, and its effects are not known for children under 6 years of age. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension, rapid heartbeat, and shock may occur, necessitating immediate emergency treatment, as this drug is not removed by dialysis and alternative treatments are required. Finally, while this drug is unlikely to impair driving or machinery operation abilities, caution is warranted if adverse reactions occur.
