Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients with an allergy to quinolone antibiotics. If severe allergic reactions occur while using this medication, such as nausea, peripheral coldness, or difficulty breathing, discontinue use immediately and seek medical treatment. Rarely, symptoms such as cardiovascular dysfunction, loss of consciousness, facial or neck swelling, difficulty breathing, skin rash, or itching may occur, and if these symptoms appear, the medication should be stopped. Temporary stinging or irritation, pain, redness, glare, blurred vision, and dryness may occur in the eye, and in severe cases, can progress to serious skin conditions such as keratitis or Stevens-Johnson syndrome, so if abnormal symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately. Occasionally, hearing impairment or irritation symptoms may occur. Domestic investigations have reported side effects such as burning sensation or itching during use. Patients using antibiotics from the same class as this medication have been reported to experience tendon ruptures in areas such as the shoulder, hand, and Achilles tendon, with increased risk especially in the elderly or those also taking steroid medications. To prevent the development of resistant bacteria, it should only be used for the minimum necessary period, as prolonged use can lead to excessive growth of fungi or resistant bacteria, thus it should be avoided. The efficacy against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has not been established; if MRSA infection is suspected or symptoms do not improve, switch to another antibiotic immediately. If pain or inflammation occurs in the tendons, stop taking the medication immediately. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication cautiously, administering it only when the benefits outweigh the risks. If breastfeeding, either discontinue the medication or stop breastfeeding. This medication is not used in infants under 1 year of age as safety and efficacy have not been established. This medication should only be used for instillation in the eye, and care should be taken to avoid direct contact between the tip of the container and the eye.
