Treatment of male pattern hair loss
This medication is used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia, occurring in adult men aged 18 to 41 years. Male pattern hair loss is characterized by gradual thinning and loss of hair primarily due to hormonal changes. This medicine helps to improve these symptoms and delays the progression of hair loss.
Generally, finasteride is administered orally at a dose of 1 mg once daily, regardless of meals. Generally, treatment effects can be observed after more than 3 months of use, and continuous use is recommended to maintain the treatment effect.
This medication should not be used by pediatric patients or women. In particular, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should avoid handling broken pieces of this medication. As this drug is primarily metabolized in the liver, patients with liver dysfunction should use it cautiously. During treatment, psychiatric symptoms such as depression or mood changes may occur. If these symptoms arise, consultation with medical personnel is necessary immediately. Adverse reactions such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders may arise during the use of this medication, and if such adverse effects occur, discontinuation and consultation with a doctor is required. Additionally, studies related to the risk of prostate cancer have been reported, so regular check-ups with a doctor are important. This drug has few interactions with other medications, but patients should inform healthcare professionals if they are taking other medications. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication, and it is unknown whether it is secreted in breast milk. The safety for children and the elderly has not been sufficiently established, therefore special caution is necessary. During use, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels may decrease in blood tests, so care is needed in interpreting test results. There are no specific detoxification methods for overdose, but care should be taken to avoid exceeding the recommended dosage. Store this medication out of the reach of children and do not transfer it to another container. Finally, while this medication has been reported to have a low risk of carcinogenicity and genotoxicity even with prolonged use, if any unusual symptoms occur during use, immediate consultation with a doctor is recommended.
