Treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms
This medication is used for the treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. Additionally, it relieves symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease and helps in the long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease. For patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected by Helicobacter pylori, it enhances treatment efficacy when used in combination with antibiotics. Finally, it is also used in the treatment of conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome that cause excessive gastric acid secretion. Overall, it is effective in treating various ulcers and reflux diseases of the stomach and esophagus and improves symptoms.
Gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers: Typically, 10 mg to be taken orally once a day, with the dosage able to increase to 20 mg depending on symptoms. Treatment duration is usually up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. If there is no effect after 8 weeks of treatment, it may be taken as 10 mg or 20 mg twice a day for an additional 8 weeks.
Safety for pediatric patients has not been established.
This medication should not be used in individuals with hypersensitivity to specific drugs or ingredients or with a history of such reactions. Caution is also needed if there is an allergy to penicillin antibiotics or macrolide antibiotics. Additionally, it can be risky to use in combination with certain cardiac medications or antiviral agents, so it is essential to consult a healthcare provider. Pregnant or nursing women should refrain from taking this medication. Patients with impaired liver function or the elderly may experience more severe side effects and should use this medication with caution. If allergic symptoms such as skin rash or itching occur while taking this medication, discontinue use immediately. Various side effects can appear in different body parts, such as the heart, digestive system, nervous system, respiratory system, and skin, so report any symptoms immediately. Long-term use may increase the risk of fractures, necessitating regular bone health monitoring. This medication strongly inhibits gastric acid secretion; prolonged use may lead to impaired absorption of vitamin B12. The risk of gastrointestinal bacterial infection may slightly increase, so consult a healthcare provider if diarrhea persists. Caution is required while driving or operating machinery due to potential drowsiness. There are numerous drug interactions, so inform your healthcare provider of any other medications you are taking. Care should be especially taken when used with certain antiviral agents, antibiotics, and anticoagulants. This medication should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed. Keep out of reach of children and do not transfer to other containers. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this medication, and elderly patients may face an increased risk of side effects due to liver function decline, so caution is necessary.
