Improvement in Type 2 Diabetes (blood sugar control)
This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary and exercise therapy to improve blood sugar control in patients with Type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone but may also be combined with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin if blood sugar improvement is insufficient. Additionally, nutritional counseling, weight loss, and regular exercise should be practiced to maintain drug effectiveness as well as initial treatment. Therefore, this medication plays an important role in improving blood sugar control in patients with Type 2 diabetes.
This medication is administered orally at a dose of 15 mg once daily, regardless of meals. It starts as monotherapy and may be increased to 30 mg once daily if adequate effect is not obtained. In combination therapy, it is also administered at 15 mg once daily and may be used with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin. The maximum recommended dose does not exceed 30 mg once daily.
There is no experience using this medication in pediatric patients under 18 years of age, so it is not recommended for use.
