  • Type 2 diabetes
View approved original text

This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is taken in conjunction with diet and exercise therapy and can be administered alone or in combination with other hypoglycemic agents. If blood sugar control is difficult, it may be used alongside sulfonylureas, metformin, and insulin. Additionally, nutritional counseling, weight loss, and exercise therapy should also be implemented, and all these efforts are crucial for the initial treatment and maintenance of drug therapy effectiveness. This medication effectively improves blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat type 2 diabetes and works with insulin to control blood sugar levels. This medication may put stress on the heart and should not be administered to patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure. During treatment, careful observation for symptoms of heart failure such as weight gain, swelling, and shortness of breath is necessary. If symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a physician for appropriate action is required. Patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer should also not use this medication. It is contraindicated in patients with severe liver or kidney impairment. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and premenopausal women should use appropriate contraception to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication. This medication carries a risk of hypoglycemia, so it is crucial to be well-informed about hypoglycemic symptoms, especially when taken together with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents, and to respond immediately if they occur. Regular liver function tests and blood sugar tests should be conducted throughout treatment, and if symptoms of liver damage (e.g., fatigue, loss of appetite, jaundice) occur, the physician should be notified immediately. If sudden weight gain or severe swelling occurs during the course of this medication, it should be reported to a doctor. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney or liver function should use this medication more cautiously and be closely monitored for the possibility of adverse effects. Although special symptoms may not appear in case of overdose, appropriate treatment should be administered based on clinical symptoms. This medication has not been shown to be safe and effective in children, so it is not recommended for use in this age group. While taking this medication, there may be interactions with other medications, so all medications being taken should be reported to a doctor or pharmacist. Lastly, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container to maintain its quality.
