Improvement of essential hypertension and diabetic nephropathy
This medication is used to treat essential hypertension and particularly helps prevent and treat kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes with hypertension. It effectively controls blood pressure and plays a role in delaying the deterioration of kidney function.
For essential hypertension, the usual dose of Irbesartan is 150 mg orally once daily, with the possibility of increasing to 300 mg if not sufficient. In patients with hypertension and diabetic nephropathy, start with 150 mg once daily and may increase to 300 mg as needed. In elderly patients aged 75 years and older, consider an initial dose of 75 mg. For patients on dialysis, consider an initial dose of 75 mg.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, so it must be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Regular blood tests are necessary as potassium levels may increase, and kidney function may show abnormalities. Additionally, if symptoms of angioedema such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. This medication can interact with other blood pressure medications, diuretics, potassium-sparing diuretics, lithium, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), so inform your healthcare provider of any other medications you are taking.
