This medication is used to treat essential hypertension. Additionally, as part of hypertension therapy, it helps to slow the progression of kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes who have hypertension. Therefore, it is effective in improving not only blood pressure control but also kidney health in diabetic patients.

How to take

Adult dose

Essential Hypertension: Administer 150 mg of Irbesartan orally once daily, and if the effect is insufficient, the dose can be increased to 300 mg. The 24-hour blood pressure control effect is better when taking 150 mg compared to taking 75 mg once daily. In special cases (initial treatment, blood dialysis patients, elderly patients over 75 years), 75 mg can be considered. Blood pressure control via monotherapy

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus, especially during pregnancy, therefore, it should not be taken by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. If pregnancy is confirmed, the medication should be discontinued immediately. It should not be administered to patients with allergy reactions to this drug, severe liver impairment, specific renal diseases, or a history of angioedema. Elderly patients, those with elevated serum potassium levels, those with impaired liver function, and those with heart disease should use this medication with caution and require regular monitoring according to medical advice. Generally, side effects of this medication are mild and temporary, but dizziness, headaches, cough, indigestion, etc., may occur, and rarely serious side effects such as angioedema, hyperkalemia, liver dysfunction, and renal failure can occur, so caution is required. This medication can be taken with other antihypertensive medications; however, patients should be cautious as potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics may lead to dangerously elevated potassium levels in the blood. When taken with lithium or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, the risk of renal function decline or side effects may increase, so patients should consult their physician. This medication is not recommended for breastfeeding women; it is advisable to discontinue breastfeeding when taking the medication. Safety has not been established for pediatric use, and dosage should start low and be administered with caution in elderly patients. In cases of overdose, hypotension and cardiac arrhythmias may occur; if overdose is suspected, immediate consultation with medical personnel and appropriate treatment is necessary. When storing, keep it out of reach of children, and do not transfer to another container.
