This medication is used to improve atherosclerotic symptoms in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease. It also helps reduce the risk of mortality, myocardial infarction, stroke, or refractory ischemia associated with cardiovascular abnormalities in adult patients with acute coronary syndrome, particularly those with unstable angina or non-ST elevation myocardial infarction. Additionally, in patients with atrial fibrillation who have multiple vascular risk factors and cannot use vitamin K antagonists and have a low risk of bleeding, it is effective in reducing the risk of stroke and other thrombosis. This drug plays a crucial role in protecting cardiovascular health and reducing risk, thereby improving patients' conditions.

How to take

Adult dose

For patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease, Clopidogrel is orally administered at a dose of 75 mg once daily. For patients with acute coronary syndrome, start with a loading dose of 300 mg orally once on the first day, then maintain with 75 mg orally once daily. Aspirin 75-325 mg should be co-administered once daily during this time. For patients with atrial fibrillation, administer 75 mg orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication is a drug that inhibits platelet aggregation to prevent the formation of blood clots. The effectiveness of this medication may be reduced in patients who do not produce sufficient active metabolites due to certain genetic factors, and in such cases, alternative treatment should be considered. Additionally, concomitant use of medications that activate CYP2C19 enzymes may increase drug concentration and the risk of bleeding, so co-administration should be avoided. This drug should not be used in patients with allergies to this medication, those with severe bleeding, severe liver damage, nursing women, and patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance. Caution should be exercised in patients with a high risk of bleeding, liver or kidney dysfunction, acute stroke, hypertension, elderly individuals, and underweight patients, and the medication should be discontinued in advance if surgery is planned. Since this drug may increase the risk of bleeding, notify healthcare professionals immediately if bleeding symptoms occur and get a blood test. Additionally, be careful as there may be an increased risk of bleeding when this medication is used together with other antiplatelet agents, anticoagulants, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). During pregnancy, while the risk to the fetus is low, there may be an increased risk of bleeding during delivery, so discontinuation of the drug before delivery may be necessary. If breastfeeding, it is advisable to stop breastfeeding or discontinue the medication due to the possibility of the drug being secreted in breast milk. The safety and efficacy of this drug in children have not been established, and in elderly patients, the risk of side effects such as bleeding may be higher due to reduced physical function, thus requiring dosage adjustment and monitoring. In cases of overdose, bleeding time may be prolonged and bleeding complications may occur, so immediate medical attention is required for appropriate treatment. This drug should be stored out of reach of children and it is advisable not to transfer it to other containers.
