Improvement of essential hypertension
This medication is used to treat essential hypertension, that is, high blood pressure. It helps effectively manage hypertension and maintain blood pressure within the normal range.
Regardless of sex or race, the recommended oral dosage of valsartan is 80 mg once daily. For patients who do not have satisfactory blood pressure control, the dosage may be increased up to 160 mg per day or a diuretic may be added, and if necessary, it may be increased up to a maximum of 320 mg per day. For elderly patients (75 years and older), treatment should be started with a dose of 40 mg once daily. In patients with renal impairment and a creatinine clearance of 10 to 20 mL/min, the dosage is 1.
Safety and efficacy have not been established in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, particularly during the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. It is safest not to use this medication in women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as in women who are breastfeeding. Patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction, those with hereditary angioedema, and patients having specific heart conditions should not take this medication. Elderly patients, those with high serum potassium levels, and patients with mild to moderate liver impairment should be administered with caution, as it may cause blood pressure to drop too low, thus requiring careful monitoring of their condition. Special caution is needed especially when starting the medication as blood pressure may drop rapidly; if symptoms of hypotension occur, immediate notification of medical personnel is required. Side effects such as headache, dizziness, fatigue, cough, and diarrhea may occur during the medication period, and any unusual symptoms should be consulted with a specialist. Particularly serious side effects such as hyperkalemia, kidney function impairment, and angioedema may occur, requiring regular blood tests and physical assessments. When combined with other antihypertensive medications, diuretics, or potassium supplements, the potassium levels in the blood may rise to dangerously high levels, so caution is advised. This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness while driving or operating machinery, so one should be cautious. In case of overdose, severe hypotension and decreased consciousness may occur, requiring immediate emergency care. Safety in children and adolescents has not yet been established, so use in this population should be avoided. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is recommended not to transfer it to another container.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly closed container. Additionally, it is important to store it in a cool place below 30 degrees Celsius to maintain its effectiveness.
