As monotherapy, it is initiated at a dose of 15 mg once daily, and if sufficient effect is not achieved, the dose may be increased to 30 mg once daily. In combination therapy, the dose is also 15 mg once daily, with a maximum recommended dose not exceeding 30 mg once daily.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat type 2 diabetes and aids in regulating blood sugar by supporting the action of insulin. During the use of this medication, there is a risk of developing or worsening congestive heart failure, which can put strain on the heart. Therefore, during the initiation of treatment or when increasing the dose, it is important to carefully monitor symptoms of heart failure such as weight changes, shortness of breath, and edema. If symptoms of heart failure occur, promptly inform medical personnel, and if necessary, discontinue or reduce the dose of this medication. Patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure should not take this medication, nor should it be administered to patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer. Use is also prohibited in patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function, type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, pregnant women, or women who may become pregnant. This medication can cause fluid retention, leading to edema or weight gain, so patients with edema or heart disease should be especially cautious. Additionally, there is a risk of hypoglycemia while taking this medication, particularly when combined with other hypoglycemic agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas, so blood sugar and hypoglycemia symptoms should be closely monitored. If symptoms of liver dysfunction appear, consult medical personnel immediately, and regular liver function tests and blood sugar tests are important. For premenopausal women, this medication may stimulate ovulation; thus, appropriate contraceptive methods should be employed if pregnancy is not desired. Elderly patients, malnourished patients, those who engage in vigorous exercise, or those who consume excessive alcohol should also exercise caution when taking this medication. If symptoms such as visible hematuria, urinary disorders, or urgency occur, this may indicate the possibility of bladder cancer, and the physician should be informed immediately. This medication is taken once daily and can be taken without regard to meals; however, if a dose is missed, do not double the next day's dose. There are medications that interact with this drug, so if other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform and consult with medical personnel. Finally, keep this medication out of reach of children, and store it securely in its original container.
