Relieves symptoms of gastric ulcer and gastroesophageal reflux disease, and effective in treating Helicobacter pylori infection
This medication is used to relieve symptoms of gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, and erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also effective for long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease and assists in treating gastrointestinal ulcers infected by Helicobacter pylori in combination with antibiotics. It can be used for conditions associated with excessive gastric acid secretion, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, improving patients' symptoms. This drug regulates gastric acid secretion, maintaining health of the stomach and esophagus while promoting ulcer healing. Therefore, it effectively treats various stomach issues and improves symptoms.
For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: The usual adult dosage is 10 mg orally once daily as Rabeprazole Sodium. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg can be orally taken once daily. Treatment duration for gastric ulcers is up to 8 weeks and for duodenal ulcers up to 6 weeks. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If symptoms persist after an 8-week course of PPI, additional treatment may continue for another 8 weeks with 10 mg or 20 mg orally twice daily. However, the 20 mg twice daily dosage should only be considered for patients with confirmed severe mucosal injury. For symptom relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, further medical attention is required. After symptom resolution, an on-demand therapy of 10 mg once daily can be used for any subsequent symptoms. For long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease: Depending on the patient, administer 10 mg or 20 mg orally once daily. For eradication of Helicobacter pylori: Patients with Helicobacter pylori infection should be treated with eradication therapy. It is recommended to co-administer this drug 20 mg, clarithromycin 500 mg, and amoxicillin 1 g twice daily for 7 days. For Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: The recommended initial dosage for adults is 60 mg once daily. The dosage can be adjusted according to individual patient needs up to 120 mg daily. Doses up to 100 mg can be given once daily, while the 120 mg dose should be divided into 60 mg taken twice daily. Patients with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome have been treated with this drug for up to 1 year. ◯ In patients with liver dysfunction, adverse reactions related to hepatic encephalopathy have been reported in patients with cirrhosis. Therefore, it should be administered cautiously. ◯ In pediatric patients, safety has not been established. ◯ In elderly patients, caution is warranted as they often have decreased liver function.

Particularly careful attention is required when combined with antibiotics, antiviral medications, or drugs affecting blood coagulation. It should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and it should be given carefully to the elderly considering the potential for side effects due to decreased liver function. Safety has not been established for pediatric patients, so use is not recommended.
