Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and helps control blood sugar levels by improving insulin resistance. While taking this medication, it may exert pressure on the heart; therefore, patients with congestive heart failure or a history of heart failure should not use it. During the initial treatment or after dose increases, carefully monitor for symptoms of heart failure, such as weight changes, shortness of breath, and swelling. If these symptoms occur, consult a physician immediately. There is an increased risk of hypoglycemia when this medication is used in conjunction with other hypoglycemics or insulin, so monitor for hypoglycemic symptoms closely and adjust doses of other medications as necessary. Edema or weight gain may occur, and these symptoms may improve upon discontinuation of the medication. Due to potential effects on liver function, regular liver function tests should be performed before and during treatment, and inform the healthcare provider immediately if symptoms of liver dysfunction appear. This medication should not be used in patients with bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer, and any symptoms like hematuria or urinary difficulties should be reported to healthcare personnel immediately. For premenopausal women, this medication may induce ovulation, presenting a possibility of pregnancy; therefore, appropriate contraceptive methods are recommended. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney or liver function should be closely monitored while using this medication, as they may have a higher risk of adverse reactions. It is advisable to avoid using this medication during pregnancy and consult a physician if breastfeeding. In cases of overdose, there may not be specific symptoms; however, inform healthcare personnel immediately and seek appropriate treatment.
