Summary

Main use
Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, and improvement of hyperlipidemia
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
For the treatment of hyperlipidemia, the recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily. If a greater reduction in LDL cholesterol is required, therapy can be initiated at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The dosage should be adjusted within the range of 10–80 mg once daily, individualizing based on treatment goals and patient response, with lipid levels being analyzed every 2 to 4 weeks after initiation and/or dose adjustment. As the treatment goal is to lower LDL cholesterol levels, it is recommended to use LDL cholesterol measurements to evaluate the start of treatment and treatment response. However, if LDL cholesterol levels are not available, total cholesterol levels should be used to monitor treatment response. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the dosing regimen is 10–80 mg once daily, given in conjunction with other lipid-lowering therapies (e.g., LDL apheresis) or in cases where such therapies are not possible. For pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10–17), the recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily with a recommended maximum of 20 mg once daily (there are no clinical data for doses above 20 mg in this patient group). Dosing should be appropriately adjusted based on the recommended treatment goals for individual patients, with doses being adjusted every 4 weeks or longer if necessary. ○ In patients with kidney disease: Kidney disease does not affect plasma concentrations of atorvastatin or its LDL cholesterol-lowering effect, so there is no need to adjust the dosage. ○ In elderly patients: Effectiveness and safety in patients aged 70 and over are similar to those in the general adult patient population.
Child dose
For pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10–17), the recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily, with a recommended maximum dose of 20 mg once daily. Dosing should be adjusted appropriately based on the patient's treatment goals.

This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It particularly lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, and also reduces the risk of vascular surgeries and angina. It is effective at managing multiple risk factors for cardiovascular diseases in diabetic patients. In patients with hyperlipidemia, it helps improve vascular health by regulating cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Additionally, it aids in the prevention of heart disease in pediatric patients with familial hypercholesterolemia. Overall, it is used to improve cardiovascular health and reduce risks.
