This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it decreases the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular interventions, and angina in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. Moreover, it lowers the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, congestive heart failure hospitalizations, and angina in patients with existing coronary heart disease. It is also effective in treating hyperlipidemia, reducing total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary and familial hypercholesterolemia, as well as mixed dyslipidemia, and increasing HDL cholesterol, thereby improving serum lipids. Additionally, it can be used as an adjunct for pediatric and adolescent patients who do not fully respond to dietary modifications. This drug is used for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and hyperlipidemia.
