Reduction of risk of myocardial infarction and stroke and improvement of hyperlipidemia
This medicine helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease and patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, patients with coronary heart disease can lower the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction and stroke, vascular surgery, congestive heart failure hospitalization, and angina. The recommended initial dose for the treatment of hyperlipidemia is 10 mg once daily. If greater LDL cholesterol reduction is needed, treatment may start with 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. Administration should be within the range of 10-80 mg once daily, tailored to treatment goals and patient characteristics. Lipid levels should be analyzed within 2-4 weeks after starting treatment to adjust the dose. For homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
The recommended initial dose for pediatric patients (10-17 years) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 20 mg once daily. Dose adjustments should be made at intervals of 4 weeks or more.
