Efficacy & effects

Improvement of type 2 diabetes (blood sugar control)

  • Type 2 diabetes
View approved original text

This medication is used to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy, and if necessary, can be combined with other hypoglycemic agents or insulin. It is especially used to enhance efficacy when blood sugar improvement is difficult with existing treatments. In the treatment of type 2 diabetes, medication alone is not sufficient; nutritional counseling, weight management, and exercise therapy are also critically important, and these methods help maintain the drug's effectiveness. Therefore, this medication is effective for blood sugar control and supports the overall diabetes management of patients.

Precautions

This drug is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and helps control blood sugar by acting with insulin. However, this medication may put strain on the heart, so patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure should not take it. If symptoms of heart failure such as sudden weight gain, shortness of breath, and swelling occur during treatment, you should consult your doctor immediately. This drug may cause fluid retention, leading to swelling, so patients with edema or a risk of heart disease should take it with caution. Patients with a history of bladder cancer or active bladder cancer should not take this drug, and it is important to inform a doctor immediately if symptoms such as hematuria, urinary disorders, or urgency occur during treatment. Patients with impaired liver function should undergo regular liver function tests during this drug's use, and if any symptoms suggesting liver damage occur, they should consult healthcare professionals immediately. This drug carries a risk of hypoglycemia, so if taken with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents, hypoglycemic symptoms should be monitored closely, and dose adjustments may be necessary. Additionally, it may stimulate ovulation in premenopausal women, leading to the possibility of pregnancy, so appropriate contraception is recommended. Elderly patients, those with decreased kidney or liver function, and patients at high cardiovascular risk need to be more cautious when taking this drug. This medication is taken once a day, and if a dose is missed, do not double the dose the next day. During treatment, regular blood sugar and liver function tests should be conducted, and any changes in weight, swelling, or symptoms of heart failure should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. This drug can interact with other medications, so if you are taking any other medications, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Finally, this drug has not been established as safe and effective for children, and should not be used in patients under the age of 18.
